Nottinghamshire Junior Badminton Association
Annual
Report 2004/05
I start my report, as I do every year, with a thank you to all the coaches, helpers & parents who make Nottingham's junior badminton organisation a sporting success The membership continues to increase due, in part, to the efforts of Gail and Nathan on the international scene.
This year has seen the continued development of the schools leagues and has resulted in an increase in the number of schools participating. The success of this initiative continues to feed our clubs with additional players wanting to play junior badminton.
Our association has supported initiatives which have enabled disabled youngsters to participate in badminton. It is envisaged that the involvement of our associations specially trained coaches will to continue to bring badminton to young people with disabilities
The inclusion of badminton in the Nottinghamshire youth games was a resounding success and we should see the continuation of this event in these games. This years squads are selected and have a programme of coaching already scheduled. The participants have again been selected from years 8 & 9 and will be playing the inter-district tournament at the Harvey Haddon Stadium on Saturday 2nd July. The council have again specified that players that are playing matches at club or county standard would not be eligible for selection but that players playing within the clubs organisation but not playing junior league matches would be eligible for selection.
The teams will consist of 4 boys and 4 girls selected from the 20 strong squads. The squads will be able to have 1 boy and 1 girl as reserves in case substitutes are required.
The second Attewell tournament, took place over the weekend of the 7th and 8th May and was a great success, our grateful thanks go to Terry Gilham for taking on the organisation of this vital junior tournament.
The main drive this year is for all our junior clubs to obtain Club Mark status. It is anticipated that sports centres and venues controlled by the Nottinghamshire councils will require clubs using their facilities to have this accreditation.
In the junior leagues this season, congratulations go to, Mansfield for U11A, U13A,U17 and the Girls leagues, Sunrise for U11B,and U15A leagues, Worksop for the U15B league and David Lloyd West Bridgford U13B league. Well done to all the young players involved.
Our junior clubs are constantly in need of coaches and helpers, If you can spare a little of your valuable time and energy please contact the nearest club. If you would like to extend you coaching abilities there are a number of courses run each year, so contact Elaine Spray for details.
