This initiative aims to teach badminton to juniors during school time and 18 teachers attended from different schools around the county.  It was so successful that similar courses are already being planned.

The Manor Sport and Recreation Centre was chosen for the training day because this is a new home to badminton in Nottinghamshire. Players are enjoying and benefiting from the fantastic sprung floor perfect for all levels of play. The Notts Schools Badminton under 13 and under 15 squads train there on Saturdays. The Midlands World Class Start and Potential are firmly established and the Mansfield Junior Badminton Club uses the centre on Fridays. A new adult Manor BC has also been formed.

The Manor Sport and Recreation Centre opened for business on April 8 and was officially opened on May 11 by Stuart Watkiss. The Centre belongs to the Manor School Specialist Sports College and was made possible through a Sport England Sports lottery Award of £1.4 million. The total build of the facility was £1.9 million with contributions coming from a variety of organisations including the Nottinghamshire BA.

The Centre has a four-court badminton hall, a small hall, a state of the art fitness suite' called Spirit and Soul, as well as all of the existing outdoor facilities comprising of tennis and netball courts, sports barn and school gym. The new Centre has separate changing facilities for the community and the school.

Future Bright for Notts Badminton

The future looks bright for Notts badminton, for following in Nathan Robertson's and Anthony Clark's footsteps, we are fortunate enough to have no fewer than fourteen junior international squad members, more than any other county in England.

Recent successes for Notts juniors include Jenny Ward under 15 triple Welsh champion at Singles, Doubles and Mixed.  Matthew Smith Under 19 Doubles champion and Under 19 gold medal winner at the European Team Event in Germany.  Ruth Coleman Under 15 Mixed Doubles champion. Chris Adcock Under 13 Singles and Doubles champion with Paul Schuller.

England's team to play in the Danish Cup in Copenhagen this month includes Notts players Neil White, Robert and Chris Adcock, Peter Mills and Krissy Koslicki.  Krissy recently won bronze medals in the Ladies and Mixed events at the first Under 15 National Junior Challenge Event at Milton Keynes and Peter Mills won silver in the Boys Singles and Doubles and bronze, with Krissy, in the Mixed at the same event.

A few days ago Robert Adcock won all three golds in the first Under 17 National Junior Challenge Event. Remarkably his brother Chris won silver in the Singles. Ruth Coleman won bronze in Singles and Doubles and Neil Ryves won bronze in the Mixed.

Hot off the press, Chris Adcock won gold in the Mixed doubles and bronze in the Boys Doubles at the Danish Cup in Copenhagen.

Chris Adcock has the distinction of being ranked number 1 in Europe following victory in the Danish Open and Aeros Cup, so the future looks secure for Notts badminton. In the meantime, keep up the good work Nathan and Anthony.

Robertson on the Move

COTGRAVE'S Nathan Robertson has moved to Denmark to further his career.  Robertson, who has a girlfriend in Copenhagen, will train with the Danish squad.  But he will be returning to England frequently to see his family and train with the England players and his doubles partner Anthony Clark.  Clark plays for Notts but lives in Coalville.

"It seemed a logical step," said Robertson's father, John.  "He plays for a team in Denmark, and so does his mixed doubles partner, Gail Emms. They are currently ranked No.3 in the world.  The facilities in Denmark are superb."

Robertson is currently taking part in the Dutch Open and then moves on to the Danish Open.  It is all part of his build up to the Olympic Games.
