Nottinghamshire 3rd off to a winning start

County 3rd TeamNottinghamshire 3rds started their Campaign in the Inter county championships on 11/11/2017 at Catmose Sports Centre Oakham. After finishing mid table last season, the team were keen to get off to a strong start against Warwickshire 3rds and Leicestershire 3rds.

Against Warwickshire 3rds James Biggs and Matt Curtis started impressively by taking their singles matches in straight games. Nathan Schofield was unable to overcome an experienced player despite a strong effort. Amy Keady and Megan Attewell both had tough competition also and narrowly lost their singles. The match score being 3-2 to Warwickshire going into the doubles.

Doubles started with Jack Adcock and James Biggs, with the Notts pair out playing their opponents and winning in two games. Matt Curtis and Paul Grimley had a tough three ender but were able to dig out the win, 21-19 in the third end. Lee Truong and Phillipa Warman put in a hard fought three games were lost out in their doubles however Amy Keady and Megan Attewell got on the scoresheet by winning comfortably in two games.

Going into the mixed the score was 5-4, now in favour of Notts. Jack Adcock and Lee Truong secure the win by beating their competition in 2 games, whilst Paul Grimley and Phillipa Warman lost a close match in the third end. Final score 6-5 to Nottinghamshire 3rds.

Keen to stick to winning ways, the match against Leicestershire 3rds began with wins for James Biggs, Nathan Schofield and Amy Keady. Matt Curtis and Megan Attewell fought hard but came out second best.

The match was 3-2 to Notts going into the doubles, which saw James Biggs and Jack Adcock win again but Paul Grimley and Nathan Schofield losing theirs. Both ladies doubles pairs secure their matches in comfortable fashion, winning in straight games. The mixed remained, with a score of 6-3 to Notts. Jack Adcock and Lee Truong beat strong competition to win in 3, 21-8 in the third game. The final game of the day saw Paul Grimley and Phillipa Warman needing three games to win and cement a comfortable victory against local rivals. Final match score, 8-3 to Notts 3.

A good effort by all playing, particularly Jack Adcock and James Biggs who each won 4 from 4. Notts 3 picking up 14 out of 22 games, will see them already at the top end of the division.
