Chairman's Report 2004

Once more, I have to say that the season has flown by and I hope that everyone connected with Nottinghamshire Badminton has enjoyed playing, administrating, or whatever your role is.  Clearly not all Clubs can win their respective Leagues and relegation will be upon some clubs but there is always next season!

I am most grateful to Ron Dennis for taking over the Secretary's role, not easy after the many years Rita Chambers did such a splendid job.  If Ron, on his own admission, has not always got things spot on I am sure you will all support him in his 'learning curve'.

On a personal front I must, on behalf of Nottinghamshire Badminton and indeed myself, say a very big thank you to Mike Kingsland who has been our Development Officer and then Project Manager for many years and has opened doors to support Badminton that the majority of us didn't even know existed.  Mike would not wish me to list all his 'deeds' but once again 'Thank you Mike' and enjoy your retirement.

The Executive Committee has not had to deal with many financial problems or requests for funding but has completed the writing of the Development Plan, which is to cover 2003/07.  The list of objectives is not long, but very much to the point and designed to take Nottinghamshire Badminton forward as one of the best County Associations and I know that we are used from time to time as a 'role model' by the BA of E.

Early in 2003 Sport England launched the Community Club Development Programme, which is intended to help all sports wishing to update their existing facilities.  Applications for aid had to be via the appropriate National Governing Body, in our case the BA of E, and I am pleased to be able to say that an application to refurbish Chilwell has passed Stages 1 and 2 and is now with Sport England awaiting their decision and I am hopeful of some support.

Our congratulations should be extended to Nathan Robertson who has recently won the Gold Medal in the Mixed Doubles of the European Badminton Championships and a Silver Medal playing with our own Anthony Clark in the Men's Doubles.

The many other achievements during the past year are referred to in my various colleagues' Reports.

Finally, my thanks to all in Nottinghamshire Badminton for the hard work, support, and efforts during the past season.

John Briggs - Chairman of Nottinghamshire Badminton Association
