Chairman's Report
2005
Congratulations to all those clubs who have achieved some success this season and commiserations if your own Club has not done so well.
My thanks go to all the different “Officials”, be it at NBA Committee or at Club level. The hard working people behind the scenes, best known as “volunteers”, keep Badminton alive and kicking.
The main congratulations this year obviously go to Nathan Robertson who, with his partner Gail Emms, amid great excitement, won the Olympic Silver Medal in Athens and then followed this by winning the All England Mixed Doubles Title in front of a capacity crowd at the NIA in Birmingham.
On a sad note we have had to say goodbye to John Wadsworth, Marjorie Kingsland, and Jack Britten, all of whom have been staunch supporters in their own special way of Nottinghamshire Badminton. They will be missed, not only as friends but also for their efforts in keeping County badminton moving forward. As I have already mentioned, without these volunteers working hard behind the scenes, this sport could not survive.
We must all now look forward to the next major task within our County, which is the complete refurbishment of the Chilwell Olympia Sports Halls. The three-court Hall has now been in existence for many years and along with the two court hall is looking very tired. The whole area - roof, floor, walls, lights etc is to be refurbished in the summer months and it is hoped that Clubs who use Chilwell Olympia will be patient during this period. We can look forward very positively and be very proud that as a County, we own our own courts.
The refurbishment is as always a partnership arrangement. Funds are coming from the Community Club Development Scheme organised via Badminton England and Nottinghamshire County Council.
I am sure my colleagues will, as always, provide you with all sorts of information and achievements in their reports, which I hope will be of interest to you.
Finally, as always, my very best wishes and thanks to all involved with Nottinghamshire Badminton.
John Briggs - Chairman of Nottinghamshire Badminton Association
