Chairman's Report
2006
Firstly I would like to thank all the volunteers, not only on the Notts BA Committees but all of you out there who, week in week out, give your time and efforts to keep our Sport going.
You will read in the various other reports of the huge successes this season, particularly with three of our County Teams being promoted, and the excellent results by our juniors and veterans in their various competitions.
Nottinghamshire again provided Badminton England with major players with Nathan Robertson, Anthony Clark and David Linley continuing to be successful on the International Stage. The progress of some of our younger players gives me hope for the future and that we can look forward to further International representation.
I am sure that most members of clubs continue to enjoy their Badminton and will have had some "highs" and some "lows", but I urge you all to keep playing. In this world of ours not everyone can be a winner but I feel that taking part and enjoying sport is the key and who knows when success might come!
I will now turn to the subject of the Chilwell Refurbishment. At last year's AGM I very enthusiastically told of the work that was to be carried out during the summer in readiness for the new season in September 2005. Basically everything seemed to go according to plan until we discovered the lines in the 3-court Hall had not been replaced properly - evidence points to a lack of communication with the sub-contractor, who simply centred the courts to the hall. However the main problem was to rear its head with the court surfaces in both the 3 and 2 Court Halls which have proved not to be up to the requirements of badminton at a high level. Repeated efforts were made to solve the slippy floor with ventilation and heating adjustments and then a varied cleaning process involving both product and equipment which was supposed to resolve the difficulties.
Clearly you are all aware the so called remedies did not work but I am delighted to be able to inform you all that Gerflor, the manufacturers of the flooring originally specified but not used by the contractors, have come to our rescue and we are having the entire flooring replaced in both the 2 and 3 Court Halls with their superior product. In return they are to become our Titled Sponsors of the Notts Open Championships for the next five years and we will be able to provide testimonial support in various ways.
The work is to start on the 17th July and will take about five weeks. This work obviously comes at a cost, but Nottinghamshire County Council have agreed to provide some support.
Gerflor are recognised as the major player in Sports Flooring, having provided their product at events like the Olympics and Commonwealth Games and I am sure the new floor will provide all with just what is needed.
Finally again my thanks and very best wishes to all involved with Nottinghamshire Badminton, have a good summer and come back refreshed for the new Badminton Season.
