Secretary's Report
2004/05
I am now coming to the end of my first full year as secretary and what a year it has been, there have been many highs and unfortunately some lows, the highs being our success at the Olympics, with our local players achieving great things, and again our wonderful success at the All England Championships. Personally my trip to the BA of E headquarters to meet the English team was a particularly enjoyable experience. The lows were the very sad deaths of three of our most valued members, our President Mr John Wadsworth, Mr Jack Britton an Honorary Life President and Marjorie Kingsland. I know I speak for all of you, when I say that they will be sorely missed. Unfortunately I did not have the pleasure of knowing Jack Britton, but came to know John and Marjorie fairly well. One of my fondest memories of Marjorie was at last years AGM, when her husband Mike had asked me a fairly awkward question, Marjorie immediately stood up and apologised for bringing him.
Again I would like to thank all of the Officers for their help, particularly our Chairman Mr John Briggs and our Vice Chairman Mr Paul Adcock, who have both held the fort for me, on the odd occasions that I have been unable to attend a meeting. I would like to thank the Officers for the huge amount of time and effort that they have put in to make our Association so successful, and for producing their excellent reports. I think that the web site officers deserve a special mention, our site is the envy of many and recently highly praised by the acting Chief Executive of the BA of E.
Beeston Fields BC are to be thanked again for staging what should prove to be yet another wonderful presentation evening. My own club, The Kirkby Crocodiles, has had nearly thirty ticket applications, which reflects the popularity of the event. I must put a plug in for the Crocodiles here, as we managed to surpass last year's haul of four titles, winning no less than six titles this time around. Things can only get tougher, as we progress. I truly hope that Beeston Fields will continue to hold this very special event.
It will be noted from previous year's reports, that all attendees at the AGM were reminded to sign the attendance sheet. Those Clubs without delegate signatures will be ineligible to receive the club rebate.
Ron Dennis - Secretary Nottinghamshire Badminton Association
Addendum
The specific demands of the role have
unfortunately led Ron to reconsider his position, and he has since resigned as
Honorary Secretary for this Association.
