Web Report 2007/08

It has been rather an interesting year for the web. For the last year or two Paul Bexon and I
have been trying to find time to rebuild the website. Let’s admit it the original design is now over
eight years old, which is a very long time in computing, and the site is showing its age. Both
Paul and I have found that our real work commitments have increased meaning both of us have
found very little time to dedicate to the web. At one point it looked like the website would close
with both of us deciding to pass it on to someone with younger and newer ideas. Some of you may
have nboticed the latest slimmed down version. Alison Bexon and Mark Ransom are working on a
database to make web maintenance easier, but we are still looking for volunteers to take on the site.

Since the site started several years ago Paul has worked tirelessly on behalf of Notts BA first
with the design and then with the weekly maintenance and the site would have been in a very
sorry state without all his efforts. I would like to thank him for all the work and dedication to
the site and to NottsBA.

When we first started the site the idea was that it would be a way to get up to the minute league
results and news items to all the Notts clubs. Paul looked after the news items and I did the results.
We never envisaged that Paul would have to do so much work just to get news items for the web.
As for the results there has been a slight improvement over the years, but not much. Nearly ninety
percent of the cards this year have arrived not fully filled in. The most common fault is which team
has played (firsts, seconds, thirds etc) which means Marshall has to look who played to see which
team it is and write it on the card. Next year could we all make an effort to fill in the teams’ names
on the match card.
