West Bridgford Take The Title
15th April 2006

Many of the promotion and relegation issues were settled in this final week of the season. Although not affecting the Premier Mixed title already won by West Bridgford 1, Forest 1 moved into second place by beating University 1 5-4, but were unable to topple the students Martin Tullet and Jo Richens.

Beeston Fields 1 just missing out on a promotion spot in Division 1, Ben Sanders and Rebecca Emerton recording a maximum in their 6-3 win over Nottingham Vets 1.

Redhill 2 clinched the 2A title with victories over Adbolton Crows 2 8-1 and 6-3 at University Hospital 1, who may still finish second by virtue of their 9-0 success at Phoenixwood 3.

Carl Firmstone and Laura Brock were unbeaten in Phoenixwood 2’s 6-3 win at Redhill 3 to settle the 2B’s trophy destination, Redhill 3 being relegated at the same time.

University 2 comfortably secured the 3A title with a 9-0 win Carlton 1, as Gary Biggam and Shirley Stephenson were undefeated in a 5-4 win against Sherwood Mount 1.

Mick Nettleton and Wendy Walton-Towle were unbeaten for Nottingham Vets 3 in a 5-4 loss to Beeston Fields 4 in a mid table 4B battle. Whilst Steve Daykin and Kate Fenton were undefeated as Southwell Centre 3 secured the 6A title with a 7-2 defeat of Adbolton Crows 4.

John Gibson and Roz Tuffrey scored all Carlton 3’s rubbers in a 3-6 loss at Unity in 6B. University Staff beating Carlton 3 5-4 with a maximum from Paul Langlois and Tatiana Fesenko, Chris Parrot and Irene Hodgson being undefeated to lead Carlton 3 to a 5-4 win against David Lloyd Aspley 2.

Pete Gooden and Chris Watson recorded a maximum for University 1 at Forest 1 in Mens Premier, but it was not  enough for University to win the match, losing 5-4 and suffering relegation in consequence, as Beeston Valley 2 take the 2B title beating runners up East Leake 2 7-2, Andy Perry and Martin Squires notching a maximum.

Steve Wilkes and Jeremy Daniel were undefeated for Adbolton Crows 2 in their 6-3 success against Woodborough in 4A, whilst three rubbers from Mark and David Tilling led Carlton 3 to a 7-2 win over David Lloyd West Bridgford 3 in 5A.

Laura Brock and Penny Reynolds were unbeaten as Phoenixwood 1 completed their Ladies Premier season with a 5-4 win at Redhill 1. Beeston Valley’s final fixture in Division 1 resulting in a 6-3 win over neighbours Beeston Fields 1 and promotion, Kerry Gibson and Rebecca Emerton scoring all Beeston Fields rubbers.

Redhill 2’s 8-1 win at Carlton Forum confirmed their to spot in Division 2, Jeannie Mitchell and Erica Gregory scoring all Byron 1’s rubbers in a 3-6 loss at Sherwood Mount in a  match of six three setters in Division 3. Byron 2 suffering two further losses in Division 5, 8-1 to Beeston Fields 3 and 7-2 to St Giles.


 

Bingham Aiming For The Top
6th March 2006

Toby Massey and Matt Tongue’s three rubbers guided Bingham 1 to a 6-3 win at Byron 1 to inflict Byron’s first defeat and keep themselves in the hunt to retain their Mens Premier title.  In the same division, Bingham 2’s all round strength brought them a 5-4 victory away at Rolls Royce 1, but they were unable to topple the home side’s first pair, Simon Shaw and John Cooper, who were undefeated.

In Division 1, Byron 2 won 5-4 at Beeston Fields 1, with the home side’s first pair, Ben Sanders and Colin Martin, undefeated.  After five three setters, Long Eaton came away from Carlton Forum 1 with a 6-3 win - Karl Severn and Rob Snape registering a maximum, all in three sets.

Three of Kirkby Crocodiles four Mens teams scored comfortable victories to further strengthen their position in their respective divisions.  A 9-0 win over Boots 1 had made Kirkby Crocodiles 1 clear favourites for promotion from 2A – the team then clinched promotion with a 7-2 success over nearest challengers Nottingham Vets 1.  The 2nd team were in a similar position in 4A after beating Adbolton Crows 2 8-1 and Boots 2 7-2, whilst the 4th team’s 9-0 win at Beeston Valley 4 kept them in contention in 6A.

Phoenixwood 1 continued their winning ways in 2B - Mel Bullock and Stuart Button were unbeaten in their 7-2 win at East Leake 1.

In 3B, a marathon occurred at David Lloyd West Bridgford 2 when visitors Beeston Valley 2 emerged with a 6-3 win after eight three setters, Andy Perry and Martin Squires taking three for Beeston Valley and both teams scoring over 300 points!  Gurj Singh and Michael Foster were unbeaten for Redhill 3 but saw their team go down 5-4 to Radcliffe Knights 1.

In the same division, University Staff edged a close contest 5-4 against Beeston Valley 2 - Duncan Palmer and Matt Brooke taking three.  East Leake 2 stay unbeaten in this division, Martin Edwards and John Atkinson taking three rubbers in their 6-3 success over University 3.  Arnie Huttman and Adrian Shaw were unbeaten to record all Radcliffe Knights rubbers in their 3-6 defeats at University Hospital 2 and Rushcliffe Arena 1.

Nottingham Vets 2 moved ahead in 5B, defeating nearest challengers Kirkby Crocodiles 3 by 7-2, with Phil Johnson and Bill Houghton being unbeaten.  Colin Abbott and Arthur McTighe then notched a maximum to lead the Vets to a 5-4 success against Beauvale 2.

Rolls Royce 2’s 6-3 win at Woodthorpe gives them the 5B title.  St Giles edged home 5-4 at Carlton 2 - Graydon Peacock and Steve Phillips being undefeated.

In 6A, Steve Envis and Dave Young were undefeated in Sherwood Mount 2’s 5-4 win over Beeston Fields 3, as were Mike Brooks and Anthony Limb in Kirkby Crocodiles 4’s 7-2 win at Experian 2.

Bingham 1’s hopes of retaining the Premier Mixed title took a knock when they lost 6-3 at Forest 1 although Andy Howard and Lorraine Buck took their three rubbers.  Forest 1 stay in the hunt for the title with a 9-0 success at Bingham 2 and Forest 2 overcame West Bridgford 2 7-2 for their first win of the season - Mike Storey and Helen Norris taking their three rubbers.  All is still to play for however as the other unbeaten challenger – West Bridgford – have still to play both Bingham 1 and Forest 1.  Three rubbers from Shaun Round and Sam Reynolds guided Byron 1 to a 5-4 win at Bingham 2.

In Division 1, Bingham 3 lost 3-6 to Beeston Fields 1 - Ben Sanders and Nicky Stokes registering a maximum.

In 2A, David Lloyd West Bridgford 1 defeated Adbolton Crows 8-1, but then lost away to Carlton Forum 1 6-3 - Andy Tyas and Maxine Day recording a maximum.  Pete Drew and Jane Rudge’s three rubbers were not enough for Adbolton Crows 2 to gain victory at Phoenixwood 3 with Phoenixwood taking the verdict 5-4.  Phoenixwood then went down 7-2 at Boots 2 - stalwarts Gary Stubley and Moira Houlton were unbeaten.

Phoenixwood 2 remain undefeated in 2B, their latest two victories were 7-2 over Bingham 4 and 8-1 at Byron 3.  Nottingham Vets 2 stay on their heels by beating Bingham 4 8-1.  Boots 1 won 6-3 at Redhill 3, Steve Jordan and Jacqui Dennis being unbeaten.

University 2 retain their 100% record in 3A - Woody Tham and Ruth Wear taking three rubbers, all in three sets, in their 7-2 win over East Leake 1.  East Leake also went down 5-4 to Beeston Fields 3 - Geoff Davison and Anita Frear anchoring this win with a maximum.  Can Truong  and Jess Martin scored a maximum, all in three sets, to guide Carlton 1 to a 5-4 win at Beeston Fields 3.  Fields then bounced back to win 7-2 at Rushcliffe Arena 1.  Arena also went down by the same score at University Hospital 2 where Sunny Kotecha and Celia Abbott were unbeaten.  Long established pair Ken Tantum and Margaret Radford (ex Rise Park) scored a maximum in Redhill 4’s 5-4 win at Rushcliffe Arena 1.

Tony Watson and Alison Wellings’ three rubbers were of no avail in 3B as their team, Southwell Centre 1, lost 5-4 at Beeston Valley 2.  Also to no avail was Chris Watson and Vicky Marsden’s maximum in University 3’s 5-4 defeat against Boots 3.  However, Chris Watson and Rebecca Lee took all three rubbers in University 3’s 7-2 win over David Lloyd Aspley 1 and also their 5-4 loss at Southwell Centre 1.

Pete Drew and Brenda Wells’ three rubbers anchored Adbolton Crows 6-3 win over Beeston Valley 3 in 4B.

Terry Hall and Yvette Mason registered a maximum to lead Trent University Staff to a 5-4 win over Woodborough in 5B.

Mike Brooks and Rachel Baker were unbeaten for Kirkby Crocodiles 4 in their 6-3 success at Unity in 6B.

Forest’s 7-2 win at Redhill 1 - Lorraine Buck and Heather Marriot notching a maximum - puts them in pole position to retain their Ladies Premier title.  But West Bridgford are keeping up the pressure after beating Phoenixwood 2 9-0.  Phoenixwood 1 made their position safe with an 8-1 win against Nottingham Vets 1 and a 7-2 win at Bingham 1.

After missing out on promotion from Division 1 last year on a technicality, University’s latest 7-2 win at Kirkby Crocodiles 1 - where Louise Tarbit and Natalie Howes were unbeaten - almost assures their promotion.  They need just one more win to take the title.  Beeston Valley 1 are safe in this division after winning 8-1 at David Lloyd West Bridgford 1.

Redhill 2 remain unbeaten in Division 2 after beating Adbolton Crows 1 6-3 - Jane Rudge and Bryony Farrrar scoring all Crows rubbers.  The pairing were also unbeaten in both of their 7-2 wins over Southwell Centre and Carlton Forum 1.

In the same division, Crusader’s Jenny Stark and Jo Hickling were undefeated in their 7-2 win against Beeston Fields 2.  Beeston Fields 2 secured their first win in this division with a 7-2 success at East Leake - Jill Davison and Anita Frear recording a maximum.

University Hospital opened their account in Division 3 with a 5-4 win over Sherwood Mount, despite the visitors’ Angela Kurylec and Tracie Green being undefeated.  Three rubbers from Celia Abbott and Karen Lowater anchored University Hospital’s 6-3 win at Rushcliffe Arena.  Amie Reid and Jess Abbey were undefeated to lead Bingham 3 to a 5-4 win over Byron 1.

In Division 4, Trent University Staff pulled in two matches, going down to David Lloyd Aspley 5-4 - whose Sindy Midah and Jane Kenny were unbeaten - but then bounced back to beat Adbolton Crows 2 6-3.  David Lloyd’s Sindy Midha and Jane Kenny were also undefeated against Phoenixwood 3, but saw their team go down 5-4.  Boots 2 lost 5-4 at Kirkby Crocodiles 2 despite Susie Brown and Moira Houlton taking their three rubbers.

In Division 5, Beeston Fields 3 overcame Beeston Valley 2 5-4 despite the visitors’ Alison Bexon and Helen Chapman being undefeated.  Beeston Fields 3’s Janet Pickering and Amanda Walker led the way with a maximum in their 5-4 win at St Giles.

 

Bingham Strengthen Their Grip
7th February 2006

In the Premier Division, Bingham consolidated their top position, winning 6-3 at West Bridgford - Darryl and Kristian Roebuck taking all Bridgford’s rubbers.  West Bridgford also went down 9-0 at Forest 1.

Beauvale 1, intent on reclaiming their Premier status, moved into the lead in Division 1 Mens by beating Long Eaton 6-3.  Two pairs – Peter Mills and Simon Ward, and Lawrence Ball paired with Richard Hardwick – were unbeaten.  

Kirkby Crocodiles continue to dominate 2A beating University Hospital 1 9-0.

Two victories by Redhill 2 take them to the top of Division 2B.  They beat Beeston Valley 1 5-4, this despite Valley's Andy Perry and Martin Squires being undefeated, and following this with an 8-1 win at Adbolton Crows 1.

Rolls Royce 2 stake their claim for promotion in 5A with a 9-0 win over Rushcliffe Arena 2 and Beeston Fields 3 stay in contention in 6A by beating Experian 2 9-0.

Phil Wiltshire and Nicola Hodson scored all David Lloyd West Bridgford’s rubbers in their 3-6 loss against Boots 2 in 2A, whilst Chris Heynes and Stephanie Walker were unbeaten to lead Phoenixwood 2 to a 6-3 win over Nottingham Vets 2 in 2B. A maximum from Nigel Daniel and Jane Rudge guided Adbolton Crows 1 to a 6-3 win at Boots 1 in the same division.

Mark Daintree and Margaret Radford were undefeated for Redhill 5 in their 5-4 success against David Lloyd West Bridgford 2 in 5A.

East Leake 2 did their promotion hopes no harm in 5B with a 9-0 win over Woodthorpe 1.

Star of the show in Division 6A was 11 year old Ellie Travers in her first ever mixed match.  Partnered by veteran Alan Reed, she took all her three rubbers to anchor St Giles 2’s 5-4 triumph over Adbolton Crows 4, which maintains their unbeaten record at the top of the table.

Two wins by Unity - 9-0 at Experian and 6-2 against University Staff - gives them a clear lead in 6B.  They are closely followed by Carlton 3, also with two wins, 8-1 at Experian and 6-3 at home to Kirkby Crocodiles 4, where Stuart Stafford and Jodie Smee were undefeated.

8-1 wins by two of the leading teams keeps the pot boiling in Ladies Division 2, Southwell Centre winning at Carlton Forum 1, and Redhill 2 at East Leake.

Nottingham Vets 2 gained their first win in Division 3, Jenny Abbott and Wendy Walton were undefeated in a 5-4 scoreline against Byron 1, as were Amie Reid and Gillian Taylor in Bingham 3’s 6-3 win at Sherwood Mount in the same division.     

 

Byron Move To The Top
31st January 2006

Two victories by Byron 1, 5-4 at Bingham 2 followed by 7-2 at Forest 2, move them into top place in Men’s Premier.  Whilst in Div 1 Andrew Palmer and Karl Severn were undefeated in Long Eaton’s 7-2 win over Byron 2, as were Ben Sanders and Colin Martin for Beeston Fields 1 in their 7-2 success at John Carroll.  Boots 1’s 6-3 win over Phoenixwood 2 was anchored by a maximum from Steve Rex and Steve Jordan.

Andy Perry and Martin Squires guided Beeston Valley 1 to a 7-2 win against Adbolton Crows 1 in Division 2B with a maximum. Also in 2B, three rubbers from Ian Marshall and Ian Quinton achieved a 5-4 win for Carlton Forum 2 against East Leake 1, who then bounced back to win 6-3 at Crusader with three from Geoff Rogerson and Martin Edwards.

Seven three setters were needed to settle the Division 3A encounter between Carlton 1 and Byron 3 before Byron emerged with a 5-4 win, Simon Campbell and Andy Bennett taking three rubbers, all in three sets. Beeston Fields 2 defeated Southwell Centre 1 7-2, Paul Grey and Steve Spicer notching a maximum, to take the lead in this division.

In 3B David Lloyd WB 2 registered their first victory, Tim Waterton and Martin Rimmer scoring a maximum in their 6-3 win at Radcliffe Knights 1.

Rolls Royce 2 have taken a clear lead in 5A with an 8-1 win at Carlton 3, Carlton coming back to beat Rushcliffe Arena 2 6-3, with a maximum from Mick Frings and VJ Panesar. Colin Abbott and Arthur McTighe were undefeated in Nottingham Vets 6-3 win at St Giles 3 in 5B.

Naseeb 2 maintained their challenge in 6A by beating Beeston Valley 4 9-0

Bingham consolidated their position at the top of premier mixed in a bid to retain their title, their fourth win coming at Byron 1 by 6-3, but having to give best to the home side’s Shaun Round and Vanessa Law who scored all Byron’s rubbers.

In Division 1 Redhill 1’s all round strength saw them gain a 5-4 win over Nottingham Vets 1, but were unable to build on this win going down 6-3 at Beeston Fields 1.

Michael Foster and Jackie Thompson were unbeaten  in Redhill 4’s 5-4 win against East Leake 1 in 3A.  Sherwood Mount 1 move into second place in 4A with a 7-2 success at Radcliffe Knights 1.

Mick Rennison and Sara Parmenter were undefeated to lead Southwell Centre 3 to a 7-2 win in their opening match at Woodthorpe 2 in 6A.

Unity’s first fixture in 6B resulted in a 5-4 win at Byron 4, Simon Campbell and Sally McDuell notching three for Byron.

The two leading teams in Ladies Premier each scored further victories, Forest beating Phoenixwood 1 6-3, Lorraine Buck and Jane Tarrant conceding only 20 points in their three rubbers, whilst West Bridgford overcame a depleted Bingham 1 side 8-1.

Pat Betts and Toni Favill were undefeated for Kirkby Crocodiles 1 in their 5-4 win at Bingham 2 in Division 1.

Bingham 3 restored the club’s credibility with a 5-4 win over Nottingham Vets 2 in Division 3 despite a maximum from the visitors Jenny Abbott and Wendy Walton, whilst in Division 5 Unity forge ahead with a 9-0 triumph against Byron 2.  

Royce On A Roll
8th January 2006

An injury to Andy Cockayne may have damaged Bingham 1’s chances of retaining the Mens premier title, as having to concede the rubbers, Bingham fell to a 5-4 defeat to newly promoted Rolls Royce, despite Toby Massey and Matt Tongue being undefeated.

Kirkby Crocs 1 move to the top of Men’s 2A by beating University 2 6-3, Nottm Vets 1 staying on their heels in second place with a 6-3 win at Phoenixwood 2.

Eddie Wright and Robert Richard’s three rubbers leading Redhill 2 to a 6-3 win over Carlton Forum 2 in 2B. A maximum from Jon Orchard and Andy Cairns was of no avail, their team, Crusader, going down 5-4 at Redhill 2.

After suffering relegation last season Bingham 3 scored their third win of the season in Division 3A, beating Southwell Centre 1 7–2, Mike Lee and Leigh Day were unbeaten. Southwell bouncing back to defeat St Giles 8-1.

East Leake consolidate their position at the top of 3B, beating nearest challengers University Staff 6-3.  Beeston Fields 2 beat Beeston Valley 3 9-0, while Valley had a 7-2 win over University 3.

Rolls Royce 2 are dominating 5A, their latest 7-2 win against Naseeb1 consolidating their top of the table position. Rolls Royce 2 also defeated David Lloyd West Bridgford 9-0.

Kirkby Crocodiles 3 taking a clear lead in 5B with an 8-1 win against David Lloyd Aspley 2. While James Gregory and Adam Price were undefeated as Beauvale 2 overcame Sherwood Mount 1 by 5-4.

Coming back from an opening loss, Byron 1 visited University 1 and gained a 6-3 success to put them back on track, despite having to give best to the students’ first pair Martin Tullett and Jo Richens who were unbeaten. University defeated West Bridgford, and in a humdinger of a match of five three setters, Forest 1 edged home 5-4 against Byron 1, but were unable to topple the visitors pairing of Matt Adcock and Penny Reynolds.

Two victories by Phoenixwood 1 – 9-0 at Bingham 3 and 6-3 at Redhill 1 - where Carl Firmstone and Laura Brock registered a maximum, shoots them to the top of Division 1 Mixed, and one of the favourites for promotion.  Byron 2 stay in the hunt with a 5-4 win at Notts Vets, whose Dave Hargreaves and Jenny Abbott took their three rubbers. Byron 2’s Steve Gregory and Jeannie Mitchell took three rubbers, but lost out at Crusader 5-4. In the same division Mel Bullock and Debbie Trow anchored Phoenixwood‘s 7-2 win over Nottingham Vets with a maximum.

Colin Leach and Joan Morley scoring all Adbolton Crow’s rubbers in a 6-3 loss at Bingham 4 in 2B.  Robert Dumelow and Jacquie Burton were undefeated in Nottm Vets 7-2 win over Redhill 3.

John Atkinson and Gill Rogerson recorded a maximum, all in three ends, in a match of six three setters against University Hospital 2 in 3A. Dave Sanders and Janet Pickering’s three rubbers leading Beeston Fields to a 6-3 win against University Hospital 2 in 3A.

As East Leake emerged with a 6-3 win, Chris Watson and Ruth Wear’s maximum guided University to a 6-3 win over Phoenixwood 4 in 3B. Martin Squires and Sally Moore’s three rubbers anchored Beeston Valley 2’s 5-4 win over Beeston Fields 2. Terry Watson and Alison Wellings were unbeaten in Southwell Centre’s 7-2 success against Boots 3.

Favourites for promotion from Div 4A Kirkby Crocodiles 1’s 9-0 win against St Giles takes them to the top of the table.

Jeff Roberts and Gill Webster scored a maximum to guide Sherwood Mount 1 to a 6-3 win against St Giles 1 to move into second place in 5A.

Trent University Staff suffered two defeats in 5B, going down 6-3 against East Leake 2 whose Martin Edwards and Zoë Kirk were undefeated, then losing by the same score at John Carroll. In their turn East Leake then lost 5-4 at Kirkby Crocs 3 whose Steve Pincott and Wendy Smith were unbeaten. Kirkby Crocodiles 3 also had an 8-1 success against Trent University Staff.

In 6A University Staff went down 5-4 to Byron 4 despite a maximum from Fraser Rackham and Zhen Hong Duan.

In Ladies Division 1 Kerry Gibson and Nicola Stokes were undefeated in Beeston Fields 1’s 5-4 success against Bingham 2.

While in Division 2 Southwell Centre overcame Beeston Field 2 to go top of the table, Hannah Daykin and Kate Fenton taking three rubbers.  Natalie Biggs and Jodie Smee’s maximum anchored Carlton’s 5-4 win at Nottingham Vets 2. Jane Rudge and Bryony Farrar scored all Adbolton Crows rubbers in a 3-6 loss to Crusader, while Gill Rogerson and Zoe Kirk were unbeaten for East Leake in their 5-4 win over Carlton Forum.

Carlton remaining unbeaten in Division 3 with a 7-2 success against Rushcliffe Arena.

Adbolton Crows 2 suffering two defeats in Division 4, 9-0 to leaders University 2 and 6-3 to David Lloyd Aspley.   

Bingham Turn On The Style
30th November 2005

Bingham set about the defence of their Premier Mens title in some style, defeating last year’s runner up Forest 1st 8-1, Toby Massey and Matt Tongue were unbeaten.  While Bingham 2nd weighed in with their first victory by defeating Forest 2nd 6-3. West Bridgford stalwarts Darryl Roebuck and Ian Clark’s maximum was not enough to take them to victory, losing out 5-4 to Forest 2nd.

Boots 1st lost 5-4 at University 2nd in 2A, Chris Watson and Woody Tham taking three for the students, but then bounced back to beat Carlton Forum 3rd 6-3, with three rubbers from Steve Rex and Steve Jordan.

Jon Orchard and John Brook were undefeated for Crusader in 2B, but saw their team go down 5-4 against Adbolton Crows 1st.

East Leake 2nd secured two wins in 3B, John Atkinson and Martin Edwards were unbeaten in their 6-3 win over Redhill 3rd and the same pair then notching a maximum to guide their team to a 5-4 win at David Lloyd West Bridgford 2nd. In the same division, University Staff registered a close win 5-4 against David Lloyd West Bridgford 2nd, despite the visitors Phil Wiltshire and Steve Mallory being undefeated.

David Lloyd West Bridgford 3rd scored a 6-3 win at neighbours Rushcliffe Arena 2nd in 5A, Ben Draper and Andrew Robinson notching a maximum.

Byron 2nd opened with a 5-4 success in Mixed Div 1 overcoming Beeston Fields 1st with no pair on either side able to dominate proceedings.

Carlton 2nd moved to the top of 4A by beating St Giles 1st 6-3, father and daughter Barry and Jess Marting being unbeaten.

In 5A, Southwell Centre 2nd recorded a 7-2 win at David Lloyd West Bridgford 2nd, James Hazzledine and Gina Allwood being undefeated, David Lloyd also going down at Nottingham Vets 4th, Steve Haley and Chris Fryman taking three in a 5-4 scoreline. Southwell Centre 2nd then went on to defeat league leaders Redhill 5th 6-3.

In 6A a maximum from Peter Huxley and Julie Johnson led Woodthorpe 2nd to a 5-4 win at University 4th.

Lorraine Buck and Jane Tarrant conceded only 19 points in their three rubbers for Forest at Bingham 1st in Ladies Premier, in a 7-2 victory.

Beeston Valley defeated Kirkby Crocodiles 1st 6-3 in Div 1, Toni Favill and Pat Betts scoring all the Crocodiles rubbers.

Alison Wellings and Kate Fenton recorded a maximum in Southwell Centre's 7-2 win over East Leake in Div 2. East Leake also going down 6-3 to Adbolton Crows despite Gill Rogerson and Zoe Kirk taking all three of East Leake's rubbers.

Joy Smith and Christine Ricketts were unbeaten in both Unity’s victories in Div 5, 6-3 against St Giles and 7-2 at Beeston Fields 3rd.

Carlton Forum Take Top Spot

Carlton Forum take over the top spot in Div 1 Mens with their second win of the season, taking a 5-4 verdict at Beauvale 1, despite being unable to topple the home side’s Mark Ross and Peter Mills who were undefeated. With a subtle change of pairings Beauvale then came back to beat Beeston Fields 1 6-3, Simon Ward and Peter Mills being the undefeated pair.

Jon Orchard and John Brook were unbeaten to lead Crusader to a 5-4 win at Beeston Valley 1 in 2B, while in 4B University opened with a 7-2 victory over Carlton 3, Dave Elson and Richard Heaton being unbeaten. Also in 4B, a maximum from Dominic Divito and Jonathan Hulme guided University 4 to a 5-4 win at Rushcliffe Arena 1, Kirkby Crocodiles 4 defeating Sherwood Mount 2 6-3, to go into first place in 6A.

Alex Dodds and Erica Gregory were the stars of Byron 3’s opening 7-2 win against Bingham 4 in Mixed 2B, conceding only 27 points in their three rubbers, but then went down 3-6 to Redhill 3 whose Eddie Wright and Jenny Osbourne scored a maximum.

Tim Davies and Yiling Soong were undefeated in University 2’s 6-3 win over Beeston Fields 3 in 3A.

Andy Perry and Louise Finlay took three for Beeston Valley 2 in 3B, but saw their team go down 5-4 to David Lloyd Aspley 1, who top the division with this win.

Beeston Valley 3 shoot to the top of Division 3A, three rubbers from James Capel and Sally Moore taking them to a 5-4 win at Carlton Forum 2, the same pair being unbeaten in their 6-3 victory over Nottingham Vets 3, and their 8-1 success against Beeston Fields 4. Geoff Day and Kathryn Warrington’s maximum for Carlton Forum 3 was of no avail, as their team lost out 5-4 to visitors Redhill 5, Dave Elson and Joan Lynn’s maximum anchoring University Hospital 3’s 6-3 win at Sherwood Mount 2. Two Kirkby Crocodiles teams picked up 7-2 victories 3rds winning at John Carroll where Steve Pincott and Wendy Smith were undefeated, and the 4ths also winning away at University Staff.

Forest opened their defence of the Ladies Premier title by beating West Bridgford 5-4, Lorraine Buck and Jane Tarrant conceding only 24 points in their three rubbers, Bridgford then bouncing back to defeat Phoenixwood 1 6-3.

University strengthened their promotion bid in Div 1 with comprehensive victories over Boots 1 9-0 and Bingham 2 8-1, Jodie Smee and Natalie Biggs recording a maximum in Carlton’s 6-3 success against Byron 1 in Div.3.

   

West Bridgford Take Early Lead

Matching score lines were the order of the day as the ‘Big Guns’ of Premier Mixed – Forest 1st, West Bridgford 1st and Bingham 1st  – opened their seasons against their respective second teams, each winning by the same 7-2 score.  West Bridgford followed this up with a 6-3 victory over a depleted Byron 1st to take an early lead in this division.

In Division 1 Beeston Fields 1st recorded an away win, Colin Martin and Kerry Gibson taking three in a 6-3 success at Crusader.

While in 2A, stalwarts Gary Stubley and Moira Houlton were the architects of Boots 2nd’s 7-2 win against Carlton Forum 1st by notching a maximum.  However, Forum bounced back to beat Adbolton Crows 2nd 9-0.

Rob Brown and Emma Moors’ three rubbers in Division 3A were of no avail as their team, Boots 3rd, went down 5-4 at David Lloyd Aspley 1st.

Steve Pincott and Alison Hickinbottom were unbeaten for Kirkby Crocs 2nd in their 6-3 win at Carlton Forum 2nd in 4B.

St Giles 2nd registered two 6-3 wins in 6A, Steve Phillips and Denise Travers taking three at home to Byron 5th, and also winning at University 4th, whose Jonathan Choi and Amy Geddish scored all the students’ rubbers.

In the Men’s league, Byron 2nd gained a narrow victory over Carlton Forum 1st in Div 1 - Alex Dodds and Richard Stanford anchoring this win with a maximum.  However, Forum bounced back to beat Beeston Fields 1st 6-3, three rubbers coming from Andy Tyas and Andy Shaw.

Dave Hargreaves and Mick Nettleton were undefeated as Nottm Vets 1st beat Boots 5-4 in 2A.  Steve Whieldon and Ben Gardner scored all University 2nd’s rubbers as they went down 6-3 at University Hospital 1st in the same division.

John Gladish and Mark Law were unbeaten to lead Bingham 3rd to a 7-2 success against Carlton 1st in 3A.

Graydon Peacock and Steve Phillips guided St Giles 2nd to a 6-3 win with a maximum at University 4th in 4B, while Mike and Simon Brooks were unbeaten in Kirkby Crocs 4th’s 5-4 victory in 6A against Beeston Fields 3rd.

Yiling Soong and Kirsty Ogilvie were undefeated as University 1st started with a 7-2 triumph over Beeston Fields 1st in Ladies Div 1.

Alison Wellings and Sara Parmenter took a maximum at Redhill 2nd in Div 2, but saw their team, Southwell Centre, go down 5-4.

Six three setters were needed in Div 3 before Sherwood Mount emerged with a 6-3 win over Byron 1st, Jeannie Mitchell and Erica Gregory scoring all the visitors’ rubbers.
