The John Briggs Generation Games
Tournament
2004
![]()
This seasons event was once again held in mid May, rounding off the season for the die hards who still have enough energy and enthusiasm to find themselves a suitable partner and play a challenging days badminton.
The weather proved to be an added challenge. As the rest of Nottingham basked in sunshine on the hottest weekend of the year, our gallant players had to do combat against the heat as well as their handicaps and their opponents. Enter Asda, by supplying much needed energy boosting bananas again this year
The sixteen year age gap between playing partners inevitably produces a real cocktail of partnerships and playing abilities, resulting in many highly competitive and closely fought games within each group. It provides a great opportunity to mix youth with experienced older players away from the pressure of league badminton and this is reflected in the excellent spirit and good humour in which tournament is played.
Fund raising for Marie Curie cancer care is the underlying reason for the tournament which is held in memory of a former player who died of cancer. This year the event has once again raised in excess of £1000 for this very worthy cause. A huge thank you is extended to all the players and sponsors, and to all those who helped make this such a success.
The results are shown below. Many congratulations to the worthy finalists, whom it is hoped will be seen in action again next year as they defend their titles.
