Mapperley Park 4 forge ahead

Two victories from Mapperley Park 4 takes them to the top of Mens Division 4B and clear favourites for promotion. Faisal Anwar and Rob Pentecost recording a maximum in their
5-4 win over Arboretum 1, while Ryan Chettle and Geoff. Day were unbeaten in their 6-3 success against Southwell Centre 2.

In Mens Division 1, Bingham 3 took all three-setters to help gain an 8-1 win Away at Mapperley Park 2. As Southwell Centre 1 gained their first win in Division 2A, defeating Carlton 2 by 5-4 despite the Home sides James Hand and Andy Ellis being unbeaten.

A close encounter in Division 2B between rivals Mansfield Oatktree and Byron 3 saw the visitors emerge with a 5-4 win anchored by a maximum from Byron’s Phil. Gregory and Jack Adcock. David Lloyd Aspley 1 secured an 8-1 victory over Nottingham Veterans 2 in Division 4A.

A marathon in Division 1 Mixed including six three-setters, saw Phoenixwood take a 6-3 win against Forest 2, Mel. Bullock and Helen Goff registered a maximum for Phoenixwood. The final points total being 444-443, but then went down 7-2 Away at West Bridgeford & Long Eaton 2.

In 2A, Mapperley Park 2 scored a 7-2 win over East Leake 2, Lee Jackson and Jane Colley taking three rubbers – all in three sets – but then lost by the same score to Nottingham Veterans 1 whose Ian Price and Pauline Adams won their three rubbers – also all in three sets. Carlton 1 gaining their first win in this Division, Martin Tilling and Jess Martin being undefeated in their 7-2 win at East Leake 2.

Forest 3 go to the top of Division 2B Mixed after two recent wins. Gary Anstey and Laura Toynton being the architects of the 5-4 win over Bingham 5 by scoring a maximum. Forest 3 following up with an 8-1 win at Rushcliffe Arena 1. West Bridgeford & Long Eaton maintaining their challenge with a 7-2 win at Nottingham Veterans 2 – Andy Barrett and Elaine Battison being unbeaten – and then overcoming Rushcliffe Arena 1 by 9-0.

St Giles 1 consolidate their lead in Division 3A by beating Beeston Fields 3 by 8-1. East Leake 3 moving into second place in 4A with a 9-0 win at David Lloyd Aspley 2, while Arboretum 1 take second spot in Division 4B when defeating Beeston Fields 4 by 8-1.

Mark Daintree and Jane Steventon’s maximum guided Nottingham Veterans 4 to a 5-4 win over Redhill 2 in Division 5A. David Jones and Brenda Wells were undefeated for St. Giles 3 in 5B but saw their team go down 5-4 to Rushcliffe Arena 2, who also recorded a 7-2 success against Unity, Adam Biddle and Caroline Hill being unbeaten.

Only four matches were played in the Ladies League. West Bridgeford & Long Eaton scoring a convincing 9-0 win at Bingham 2 in the Premier Division. Nottingham Veterans 2 gaining a valuable 5-4 win over Bingham 3 in Division 1, despite the efforts of the visitor’s Sally Moore and Frances Fox who took their three rubbers.

Injury affected the Arboretum v Beeston Fields 2 match in Division 3. Arboretum ran out
7-2 winners. Lisa Crouch and Sue Allen being undefeated for Kimberley in their 6-3 win over Boots – also in Division 3.
