Mixed Division 1 is building to a grandstand finish with four teams in the running for two promotion places. Each of the contenders gained recent victories. West Bridgford & Long Eaton 2 defeated Phoenixwood 1 by 5-4, Andy Palmer & Kerry-Ann Gayle being undefeated. Phoenixwood 1 bounced back to beat Nottingham Veterans 1 by 8-1. Byron 2 edged to a 5-4 win at Forest 3, Steve Pincott & Dot Nos being unbeaten, while Mapperley Park 1 scored a 7-2 success at Phoenixwood 2, Steve Smith & Cheong Xiong Ling being undefeated. This leaves West Bridgford & Long Eaton 2 as slight favourites, with one loss each for the other three contenders.
Tom Hind & Toni Favill recorded three rubbers for Mansfield Oaktree but were unable to prevent visitors Byron 3 from winning 5-4 in Division 2A. Bingham 3 moved into top spot in Division 2B with a 7-2 win over Nottingham Veterans 2, Mark Attewell & Sally Moore registering a maximum, but East Leake 1 stay in close pursuit, also beating Nottingham Veterans 2 by the same score.
Mapperley Park 2 are assured of promotion from Division 3A after defeating Phoenixwood 4 by 9-0, whilst in Division 3B, Richard Peplow & Lisa Crouch’s three rubbers guided Kimberley 1 to a 6-3 win against Nottingham Veterans 3.
David Lloyd Aspley 2 gained their first win in Division 4A with new acquisitions Colin & Vicki Leach taking three rubbers in a 7-2 success against Kimberley 2. East Leake 2’s 8 1 win over Carlton 2 keeps them in the promotion race in Division 4B.
Rolls Royce 1 scored a vital win in the race for the Premier Mens title, recording a 6-3 away win when visiting Bingham 1, but were unable to topple the home side’s Matt Tongue & Manik Chakravarti who were unbeaten in taking all Bingham’s rubbers. In Division 1, Andy Tongue & Chris Asher took three rubbers for Bingham 3 in their 7-2 win at Nottingham Veterans 1.
Colin Leach & Fergus Lynam were undefeated for David Lloyd West Bridgford 1 but saw their team go down 5-4 at Carlton 1 in Division 2A. Mapperley Park 2 stayed in promotion contention in Division 2B with a 6-3 win at University 2. Also in Division 2B, Byron 3 recorded two victories on successive nights, 7-2 at Redhill 1 where Steve Kirby & Nick Harman were unbeaten, and 8-1 against Kimberley 1.
Boots 1 kept their promotion hopes alive in Division 3B by beating University Staff, Steve Eade & Stuart Pinchin’s maximum leading them to a 7-2 win. Kim McCabe & Adam Biddle were undefeated for Rushcliffe Arena 2 in their 7-2 win against David Lloyd Aspley 3 in Division 5A.
West Bridgford & Long Eaton continued their winning ways in Ladies Premier with two strong pairs bearing the load in a 6-3 win against rivals Bingham 1. Beeston Valley 1 collected their first win in Division 1 when beating Phoenixwood 2 by 9-0.
In Division 4, home and away matches between Unity and Forest 2 saw Forest 2 win 7-2 away, Andrea Oates & Karen Gleave being undefeated, and also taking the return match 8-1. David Lloyd Aspley beat Beeston Valley 2 by 7-2 in the same division.
